KIWISPORT COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

CLICK HERE for the Kiwisport Regional Partnership Fund Consultation 2012 - Final Plan

Sport Bay of Plenty have been managing the Kiwisport Regional Partnership Fund since 2010 and are now undertaking community consultation to review the management of the fund.

On behalf of Sport Bay of Plenty I would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend the public meetings, completed the online survey and was available for face to face discussion over the past month. The discussions we had were fantastic and very worthwhile as we need to ensure that this fund continues to meet the need of the communities in the BOP region.

Based on the information that we collected we have developed a proposed final plan that outlines the next three years.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

BACKGROUND

Kiwisport is a government funding initiative to promote sport for school-aged children that was announced by the Prime Minister on 11 August, 2009. The Regional Partnership Fund (RPF) is coordinated by Sport Bay of Plenty for SPARC for use in Bay of Plenty communities. The allocation is calculated on a per-capita basis based on the number of students in each region.

The Regional Partnership Fund has very specific purposes:

  • To increase the number of school-aged children participating in organised sport – during school, after school and by strengthening links with sports clubs;
  • To increase the availability and accessibility of sport opportunities for all school-aged children to participate in organised sport; and
  • To support children in developing skills that will enable them to participate effectively in organised sport.

Following extensive consultation with the community, Sport Bay of Plenty has established two contestable funds for the distribution of the Regional Partnership Fund; the Major Project Fund, and a smaller project fund called the KickStart Fund

CONTESTABLE FUNDS

Major Project Fund ($270,000 per annum)

Projects must demonstrate collaboration and /or reduce duplication of services, especially competition for athletes and coaches, will be given priority. Priority will be given to projects that have at least four (4) partners involved, and have a mix of shorter term and longer term focus. It is intended that in a full year there will be at least three (3) projects in each of the three sub regions of the Bay of Plenty. A successful applicant will receive up to a maximum of $30,000 per annum.

KickStart Fund ($75,000 per annum)

A fund is available in each of the three sub regions for ‘smaller’ initiatives (up to $2,000) that assist in the achievement of the objectives of KiwiSport. The priority will be given to initiatives that reduce inequalities (e.g. reduce cost), or show innovation.

Other Projects

Regional Flagship Project – non contestable ($200,000 per annum)
GO4it has been developed as a comprehensive fundamental skills programme that focuses on key skill sets to develop lifelong skills required to participate in sport and recreation for life. GO4it consists of nine components that form the foundations of the delivery programme. These are Leg it, Kick it, Hit it, Bike it, Lead it, Move it, Pass it, Swim it, Tokatu. This programme has a long term focus that delivers age appropriate activities throughout the whole school. Coordinated by Sport Bay of Plenty and delivered by the regional sporting organisations, GO4it aims to up skill students, parents, teachers and coaches in fundamental movement skills. Go to www.sportbop.co.nz/go4it for further information on this Regional Flagship Project or contact Nick Chambers, Fundamentals Team Leader; nickc@sportbop.co.nz

Secondary School Allocation - non contestable ($35,000 per annum)
This fund acknowledges a Ministerial directive that no secondary school is disadvantaged under the new KiwiSport Scheme. Where the change affects a secondary school’s ability to continue to employ a sports coordinator, the Government expects that RSTs will give priority to those schools for access to the Regional Partnership Fund, provided a school wants to continue to employ a sports co-ordinator. Secondary Schools that have been disadvantaged have been funded accordingly.
